The driver who drove his truck into the crowd in Nice, killing 84 people, was formally identified yesterday.

The Paris prosecutor, François Molins, mentioned his name in a press conference: it is Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, 31 years old, born in Tunisia, not known to intelligence services for radicalization.

Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, 31 years old, married and father of three children, was originally from M’saken, Tunisia, about ten kilometers from Sousse. He was residing in Nice and was known to the police, but not for acts of radicalization or terrorism.

Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was under judicial supervision following a fight with a motorist in May 2016. It was an altercation on a public road between two motorists, one of whom was him. The weapon in question was a wooden pallet that he had thrown at the other party.

He was required to report to the Nice police station once a week, and he diligently fulfilled this obligation.
