This Friday, around 6 PM, approximately 200 foreigners in an irregular situation (FRIS) crossed the French-Italian border at Pont Saint Ludovic.
Immediately, in close coordination with Italian authorities, these FRIS were stopped a few hundred meters from the border, on the French side.
At 8:15 PM, 152 people who had gathered on the rocks were asked to leave the area without incident and are currently subject to a non-admission procedure.
About fifty other FRIS are in the process of being detained in Menton, also for non-admission (as of 9 PM, 23 people had been detained).
The Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes and the Prefect of Imperia are in communication to address this incident in the spirit of cooperation that prevails in cross-border matters.
