The theater troupe Attraction Company was founded in 2006 and settled in Nice two years ago. Attraction Company is a group of artists, actors, dancers, and singers with a rather… unconventional sense of play. They will be at the Abbey of Valbonne for the Rue(z) Festival until July 10, and on August 1 in Monaco at the Fort Antoine Festival in the city.
A contemporary and passionate theater troupe, Attraction Company consists of 15 to 20 actors. But they are not alone; with them are dancers, musicians, and even opera singers. All the arts are represented on stage, and they contribute to the performance.
If you want to see classic plays, keep walking. Attraction Company gives prominence to originality and quirkiness. Far from theatrical strictness, the plays are all out of the ordinary. Even when Shakespeare was performed, it was actually a triptych resulting from extensive rewriting and research. The result is irresistibly funny and quirky.
This year, it’s Jean-Jacques Minazio who welcomes the public at the Abbey of Valbonne for the Rue(z) Festival. But he doesn’t do it quite like others. Armed with eclectic objects, he makes people laugh out loud rather than inform them. In 2010, the troupe had already performed at the abbey and had enjoyed great success.
Attraction Company also performs readings in the libraries of the region. No more costumes, no more sets, just two actors who skillfully play the read scenes.
Goodbye to regular theater halls, Attraction Company only performs in heritage or private venues. Currently, they are investing in the Abbey of Valbonne, a unique and character-filled place. It’s an artistic choice that merits giving full meaning to the work performed.
And when asked why people should come to see them play, here is their response: “Don’t be afraid of theater, don’t be afraid of not understanding anything. What we do is not reserved for an elite, on the contrary, we are here for everyone. Just come and let yourself be carried away and let your emotions flow.”
