Audio description highlighted for the Nice Carnival

Latest News

Last night in Nice, the presentation of the development project for audio description for the visually impaired took place.

Audio description for the visually impaired is available during the Carnival and the Battle of Flowers in Nice. Beneficiaries will be equipped with headphones to be able to understand and imagine the Carnival, thanks to the devices in place. This is a first in France, where events of this kind are available in audio description. A few days earlier, Belgium also experimented with this.

One of the major partnerships of this project is with la Mutโ€™ (the French Mutuality). Visually impaired people can enjoy the Carnival. โ€œHumanity is at the heart of our project.โ€ This is not the first time la Mut’ has participated in the development of audio description, having been involved with the event at the Paul Pompidou Institute, with sensory immersion thanks to Fragonard.

The Carnival progresses year after year; today, there are four booths available for people with disabilities. In addition to audio description, the Carnival opens its doors to everyone, โ€œNice must be a model of an inclusive city,โ€ states city councilor Jacques Dejeandile.

Subsequently, Graig Monetti, deputy mayor, delegate for Events, Youth, and Equal Opportunities, spoke about the importance of La Mut’ as a main partner of the project: โ€œA good partnership is not just a name or a logo on a banner.โ€ Nice wishes to โ€œgive the carnival back to the residents of Nice,โ€ making it popular, which is why the theme for this year is entitled โ€œPop Cultureโ€.
