In the framework of the Seniors’ Summer program, which took place from July 1 to August 31, 2012, the city of Nice organized the 2012 Short Story Contest, inviting those over 60 to take up the pen and write a story on the theme of “First Love.”
50 entries were submitted (10 of which were rejected because they did not comply with the rules).
Of the 40 selected candidates, 18 are men and 22 are women. The oldest participant is 88 years old.
The jury, consisting of a journalist, Marie-Claire Grassi, Professor of Comparative Literature at the University, Jean Emelina, Professor of Literature at the University, Muriel Marland-Militello, Deputy Delegate for Cultural Outreach, European Affairs, and the Organization of the Francophonie Games, and Jean-Michel Galy, a member of the organizing authority, Municipal Councillor Delegate for Seniors’ Citizenship, Vice-President of the CCAS, selected six winners this year.
The awards will be presented to the recipients this Friday at the Barralis Seniors’ House, with this year’s theme being “Art of the Book and Speech.”
The awarded stories will be compiled into a volume published by the City of Nice and made available to readers in the city’s municipal library network.
