Axel Sola: From Amateur Summit to the UFC?

Latest News

A pure product of Nice in mixed martial arts, Axel Sola carries a solid reputation behind him. European champion and IMMAF (International MMA Federation) amateur vice-world champion, the fighter is now continuing his ascent in the professional ranks.

Six victories for zero defeats (or draws). The Azuréen’s journey in the big leagues continues in an idyllic manner. Undefeated so far, he is gradually confirming the hopes nurtured by his coach Aldric Cassata. In the heart of Nice’s Boxing Squad and never too far from his training partners such as Virgil Augen and Manon Fiorot, to name a few, Axel Sola is surrounded by a high-performing team and surely poised to take him to the highest level.

It’s fair to say the young man, just 25 years old, knows what the highest level is all about. Formerly the number one amateur in the world, he was vice-world champion in 2017 and 2018 before being crowned European champion the same year. Axel Sola excels and for that, he imposes a rigorous schedule on himself. While at the faculty of STAPS, the student had to juggle between classes and training: “At the same time, I was in the midst of my master’s. It was difficult for me to fully commit to MMA. I had a pretty high workload to manage.“, he confides to La Sueur

Continue studies or aim for a professional fighting career? Axel Sola didn’t think long. Once he had his master’s degree, he announced his signing with BRAVE CF, a MMA league based in Bahrain (Middle East). The Niçois dominated his opponents, the organization paid well, but the lack of exposure to the general public was glaring. That’s when he returned to France after five fights to join the Ares Fighting Championship. Broadcast on Canal +, the latter has been trending since the legalization of MMA in France. Given the close ties it maintains with the UFC, the league serves as an ideal stepping stone, the cherry on the cake, for aspiring to fight across the Atlantic.

For his first fight at Ares last June, Axel Sola did what Axel Sola does. Dominant and technically comfortable, the fighter overcame Paraguayan Cesar Arzamendia by TKO in the third round. The time to take the big leap is approaching, and the Boxing Squad member doesn’t hide his ambitions: “I’ve decided to do MMA and to do it fully. I want to go as far as possible, and today, the furthest is the UFC.“.
