Clearly, the weather isn’t what it used to be! The regular seasons as we knew them are over, making way for situations we were used to seeing on TV, wondering: How will they manage to get through it? The same scenario played out yesterday morning in Nice and along the coast, where a tornado and torrential rains struck the coast for a good hour.
After this apocalyptic scenario, the good weather returned, leaving a legacy that is not easy to swallow! It’s time for an initial assessment, which could have been worse without the prompt reaction of the relevant metropolitan and departmental public services.
Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, has come to request the state of natural disaster: “Given the extent of the damage caused by the severe weather that hit the Côte d’Azur this morning, 500 agents mobilized immediately to ensure a return to normal as quickly as possible. This exceptional situation led me to request that the state of natural disaster be recognized.”
The damage inventory indicates that more than 100 trees fell on public roads, swimming forbidden from Magnan to Castel (red flag) during checks on water quality and the potential consequences of equipment damage caused by strong winds, the coastal path closed until the return to normal weather conditions, the reopening of all parks and public gardens scheduled according to the progress of the work.
However, the markets will proceed as usual.
Finally, numerous damages are reported on some private plots. Care, both morally and materially (re-housing of the affected), has been undertaken by the city’s social services.
Also, the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes has mobilized its teams, notably Force 06, to assist the communities and individuals facing exceptional situations.
As soon as the storm episode ended, they intervened, supporting the Firefighters of the Alpes Maritimes Departmental Operational Center for Fire and Rescue (CODIS), mainly for reopening roads affected by numerous tree falls.
Thanks to their mobilization and responsiveness, road closures on departmental routes were limited.
More fear than harm in the end, but vigilance must be increased considering the current “times”!
