Back to School 2018: Initiation rituals to student life are sometimes dangerous

Latest News

GG-Intercampus, the association that monitors young people’s behaviors, is sounding the alarm at the start of the university and higher education school year.

The beginnings of student life are generally marked by festive initiation rites: integration parties and weekends. These events have become widely discussed following reports of severe humiliations.

While some consider them โ€œgood-natured,โ€ others come away traumatized and humiliated.

Under the social pressure to belong to a group, new students, whether willing or not, are sometimes โ€œforcedโ€ to endure these ordeals in order to integrate, at the risk of being isolated and ostracized all year.

The explosive mix of alcohol + drugs has never been a good combination!

Despite the sanctions in place (hazing punishable by 6 months in prison and a โ‚ฌ7,500 fine), victims do not dare to report their hazers for fear of being excluded from the group.
