Back to School: A Calm and Serene Return

Latest News

After two months of vacation, the children are returning to school. They are welcomed by Christian Estrosi, President of the Metropolis, Philippe Pradal, Mayor of Nice, and Lauriano Azinheirinha, Deputy for Education.

Autographs, photos, anecdotes… Christian Estrosi overshadows the presence of Philippe Pradal and his advisors in front of awestruck children.

Having come to wish a good start to the school year at the private Apraxine school in Nice, some children did not miss the opportunity to speak up. “When I was little, I had a photo with you,” recalls a student from the fifth-grade class. A photo that the President of the Metropolis eagerly signs.

Another student takes the opportunity to remind him that they have met before. The children are as surprised and amazed to have the former mayor of Nice in person that they overwhelm him with questions.

“New Security Measures”

“But why did you choose our school?” asks a curious little boy. To which the President of the Metropolis responds, “Out of 178 schools,” they visited two that morning. “Besides yours, we went to the La Madeleine Supรฉrieure public school, where two victims of the July 14 tragedy were enrolled,” he explains.

Christian Estrosi takes the opportunity to pay tribute but also to announce new security measures.

By the end of 2016, surveillance cameras, the presence of municipal police officers and security agents, anti-intrusion alarms, and alert buttons available to school heads will be implemented in all public and private schools.

News that reassures the children, but especially the parents. The total cost is expected to reach 1.9 million euros.

Before letting the children resume their school routine, he reminds them that he chose them because they are “diligent, rigorous, and full of promise for the future!”
