In the middle of the market at Place Fontaine du Temple, local greengrocers and fishmongers made room for the “Back-to-School Info” forum. Stands set up for the occasion allowed the community to learn about the various activities offered by the neighborhood’s different centers.
Catherine Moreau, Deputy Mayor for the North-Center Territory of Nice, and Lauriano Azinheirinha, Deputy Mayor for Education, Youth, and Leisure Activities, were present. “Our goal is to develop a localized policy, to understand everyone’s needs,” stated C. Moreau. Through these meetings, the municipality aims to support volunteer associations that “need to be aided in their daily tasks.”
### Inform
A major challenge parents face during the back-to-school period is finding activities for their dear little ones. Families are in for a mad dash. Which activity to choose to fill Wednesdays and school holidays? It’s a dilemma that comes up every school year. The idea of this information forum is to gather in one place the different organizations offering entertainment. “We plan to bring together the partners in one place at the next season, for instance, at the Acropolis, so that everyone has access to leisure activities,” explains L. Azinheirinha. For many city residents, finding a nearby activity is not always so simple. As with Jacqueline Michali, who, thanks to this information point, finally found a gym in her neighborhood, “I’ve lived in the area for 35 years and didn’t know what was going on.”
Place de la Fontaine du Temple, abandoned and somewhat lifeless for several years, regained its cheerfulness thanks to the forum. Normally held at Gorbella, it took place in the center of the market. For C. Moreau, living spaces can have multiple purposes, “rather than planting flowers or trees to brighten up the area, it’s better for the population itself to bring the neighborhood to life.”
