Baroque Ensemble of Nice: 2016-2017 Program

For its 30th edition, the 2016-2017 season of the Baroque Ensemble of Nice is about to begin! This year, the association has chosen the theme “Family Airs”. “There is an influence between each artist, which is why we chose this title,” explains Gilbert Bezzina, artistic director.

“Family Airs” will feature themes and forms within this musical Europe. Vivaldi, Haendel, Corelli, Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons… are expected on the program with the premiere on October 14 at the Anglican Church of Nice.

Concerts, films, school programs, and conferences will take place throughout the season to spread the Baroque universe as widely as possible.

Francesca Aspromonte will open the event for the first time on October 14 at 8:30 PM at the Anglican Church and on Sunday, October 16 at 4:30 PM. She will perform a recital entirely dedicated to Vivaldi.

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, John Elwes will perform “Shakespeare and Music,” on November 18 and 20 at 8:30 PM and 4:30 PM, at the Chapel of the Holy Shroud.

Gilbert Bezzina, violinist, will pay tribute by performing Corelli on December 3 and 11 at 8:30 PM and 4:30 PM at the Chapel of the Holy Shroud.

“Lully, Purcell Muffat. Concertante Europe” will be played on January 13 and 15 at 8:30 PM and 4:30 PM at the Saint-Roch Church.

Haendel, Pergolesi, and Vivaldi will be performed during a concert on February 3 and 5 at 8:30 PM and 4:30 PM at the Saint-Roch Church.

Purcell will be played on March 24 and 26 at the Chapel of the Holy Shroud.

Bach and his sons, JS & CPE, will be performed on April 28 and 30 at 8:30 PM and 4:30 PM at the Saint-François-de-Paule Church.

To close this event, Bach, Buxtehude will be played on May 19 and 21 at 4:30 PM and 8:30 PM at the Saint-François-de-Paule Church.
