The basketball community in Nice experienced, over three years ago, during a traffic accident on the return from a trip with the French junior team Nice Cavigal Olympic, a horrible tragedy where the young Laure Ecard, a player for NCO, lost her life on the side of a highway as well as a motorist who was assisting. Join us on July 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2011, at the Leyrit hall!
Other players were seriously injured. The basketball and the youth of Nice were greatly affected following this human tragedy. Last year, the city of Nice asked the USNBB, through its president Philippe Manassero, to organize a tournament in memory of Laure. All local authorities support this initiative with strong commitment from the city of Nice and also from President Eric Ciotti for the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes and President Michel Vauzelle for the Regional Council of PACA.
With the support of the FFBB, and under the auspices of the Côte d’Azur Basketball League, chaired by Mr. Patrick Colette and the Departmental Basketball Committee 06, chaired by Mr. Daniel Bes, the Union of Basketball Societies of Nice organizes the 2nd INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S U16 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT.

A PREPARATORY TOURNAMENT FOR THE 2011 CADETTE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The French team, like Croatia, Russia, and Turkey, is qualified for the next European U16 Women’s Championship which will be held in Italy from August 11 to 22, 2011, in Cagliari.
The French team will arrive from Voiron after a preparation training from June 22 to July 6. After the Laure Ecard tournament, they will go to Paris at INSEP from July 17 to 22, then in Turkey at Trabzon for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) which will take place this year from July 24 to 29, 2011 (The EYOF represents the youth Olympic games) before heading to Italy for the European Championship (August 11 to 20, 2011).
