With the support of the FFBB, and under the aegis of the Côte d’Azur Basketball League and the 06 Departmental Basketball Committee, the Union of Nice Basketball Societies* is organizing the 7th international women’s under-16 basketball tournament in memory of Laure Ecard.
More than 8 years ago, the Nice basketball community experienced a horrible tragedy during a traffic accident, on the return from a trip with the junior team of Nice Cavigal Olympic, where the young Laure Ecard lost her life on the side of a highway, along with a motorist who was helping. Other players were seriously injured.
The Nice basketball community and the young people of Nice were deeply affected by this human tragedy.
This year the tournament features a high-level lineup with Belgium (present in 2012), Turkey (present in 2010, 2011), the Czech Republic (participating for the first time), and finally, France (winner in 2010).
The players from the French team, all born between 2000 and 2001, have arrived from Voiron where they were in a training camp.
It is the temple of Nice basketball, the Salle Leyrit, that will be the venue for the thrilling upcoming matches.
