After a successful season in the Women’s Basketball League (LFB), capped by a victory in the challenge round and a European qualification, the Cavigal club hopes to perform just as well next season.
“It was an exceptional season. Even historic.” Rachid Mezziane, coach of the Cavigal de Nice first team, is fully satisfied with his team’s 2015/2016 season. According to him, maintaining the highest level and then aiming even higher with the acquisition, at the end of the season, of a ticket for a European competition, “is magnificent for a promoted club.”
The club, which won the challenge round at the end of the season, finished 5th in the LFB and qualified for the EuroCup next season. The initial goal at the beginning of the season, however, was to remain in the league. “Thanks to the good results at the start of the season, we were able to aim for a European spot, and we achieved it,” rejoices Rachid Mezziane.
For the next season, Cavigal de Nice hopes to do just as well. “The appetite comes with eating. We aim to obtain another European ticket, even though the main goal remains to stay in the league. The rest will be a bonus,” admits the Cavigal coach.
Regarding recruitment, the focus is on experienced players who are familiar with the international level. “We wish to strengthen with players capable of managing the sequence of matches, as we will be playing two games per week,” explains the coach. The club will also strengthen within its means.
