Basketball Forgotten in Nice?

Latest News

Nice Cavigal Olympic (NCO), the “historic club” of Leyrit Hall, was established in 1943 from the merger of 3 clubs: AS CASINO โ€“ VICTORINE โ€“ GALLIA CLUB. This club, co-chaired by Frรฉdรฉric Sciolla and Renรฉ Naudin, is the number one in the Azurรฉen department as it plays in NF1, which is the second division of the French championship. It also ranks 7th among French clubs with more than 408 members.

As for the NCAB, this very young club created in 2003 with the smallest budget in France, has more than satisfactory results in all categories. It is worth noting that the NCAB, represented by presidents Laurence Laporte-Darcourt and Henri Biancardi, had to give up promotion to NF1 for budgetary reasons.

The dynamism of women’s basketball in Azurโ€ฆ

Despite the lack of recognition of this sport in Nice, “basketball is the leading women’s team sport on the Cรดte d’Azur in terms of licensed players,” assures Frรฉdรฉric Sciolla, president of Nice Cavigal Olympic. Indeed, basketball boasts more than 5,600 members throughout the department.

The NCO has long been part of the elite of French basketball. In 1998, the women’s team was the runner-up in France and moved up to the Women’s Basketball League (1st division) before being relegated two years ago to the second division. Coached by Odile Santaniello, one of the best French players, the NCO players are currently 8th in the championship, with Limoges ABC leading the league. They have indeed achieved a feat against the same team from Limoges by beating them 75 to 64.

The girls from NCAB are having a great season. Coached by Olga Tarasenko (former Russian international), they are second in the NF2 championship (3rd division). This Saturday, at 7 PM at the Magnan Sports Center, they will face the league leader, La Tronche.

Furthermore, the possibility of a merger between the NCAB and the NCO to create a major club in Nice is being considered.

Basketball in the spotlight at the sports victories, this Thursday eveningโ€ฆ For basketball enthusiasts, the meeting is at 7 PM at the Acropolis Palace, for the first sports victories, where the Crazy Dunkers, the number one acrobatic basketball team in the world, will be present. These crazy dunkers, all French, have become a reference in the sports entertainment industry and will make our evening enjoyable as part of this event dedicated to sports and its most famous representatives.

On this occasion, a tribute will be paid to NCO player Laure Ecard, who passed away last year in a tragic car accident. We wish a speedy recovery to players Lola Dallimonti, Marie Berthuel, and Cรฉcilia Goffin, who were injured in the same accident.
