The French U15 women’s basketball team participated this weekend in the Laure Ecard Challenge at the Leyrit sports complex in Nice.
On Friday, the young French players faced their Italian neighbors. First match and first victory, 75 to 38. They were not troubled and managed the game from start to finish.
Full of confidence, France then faced the Greek team on Saturday. The French won with a smaller margin, indicating a more challenging match. A 63 to 51 victory allowed them to play for the title against the Spaniards in the final match.
Despite a promising start in favor of France, Spain won 71 to 62 and claimed the challenge.
Nevertheless, it was a great performance by the French team in Nice, who won 2 out of their 3 matches.
The Leyrit hall was the stage for the 9th edition of the Laure Ecard Tournament in memory of the young basketball player from Nice, who passed away under tragic circumstances.
A large crowd attended the three evenings of this tournament, perfectly organized by the Nice Union of Basketball Clubs.
The Spanish cadets (under 15) won the final, defeating France after a closely contested match that required extra time: 71-62. The first half ended 33-28 for the Iberians, with the score at the end of the 40 minutes being 56-56.
Nonetheless, it was a great performance by the French team in Nice, who won 2 out of their 3 matches: against Italy 75-38 (Friday night) and Greece 63-51 (Saturday).
For the third place, Italy edged out Greece: 60-58.
