The implementation of the qualification windows for the European Championship by FIBA prompted the League to act to avoid overloading the calendar and thus protect the physical integrity of international players, particularly those from the French Team.
As a result, the number of clubs has been reduced from 14 to 12 in the LFB.
This reduction in the number of teams has led, in consultation with the club presidents, to a modification of the championship format: playoffs with 8 teams, play-downs, and a final in 5 games.
