AS Monaco Basket was defeated on the court of Bayern Munich 91 to 82, this Thursday evening. A fifth consecutive defeat in the Euroleague, plunging the Monegasques further into crisis.
The Roca Team can’t seem to keep its head above water! The players from the Rock have sunk for the fifth consecutive time in the Euroleague. This time, they lost 91 to 82 on Munich’s court. Teammates of Mike James were trailing behind the score throughout the game.
AS Monaco Basket traveled to Bavaria for the 27th day of the Euroleague. The Monegasques are on a series of four consecutive defeats, needing to stop this negative spiral. Their opponent of the evening, Bayern Munich, has stringed together a third consecutive victory, against Paris Basketball.
The debates are balanced during the first quarter of the game. The two teams exchange blow for blow. The largest gap of this first act is in favor of the Munich team, with a five-point lead. Without flinching, Vassilis Spanoulis’ men come back to level with the Germans. After ten minutes of play, Mike James’ teammates are trailing by one point (23-24).
The Roca Team struggling at 3 points
The shooting success rate is similar on both sides of the court. However, the Roca Team is much clumsier from 3 points. A struggle for AS Monaco Basket since the start of the match. The Bavarians do not hold back and widen the gap (39-48). In the second quarter, the players from the Principality score only one shot beyond the arc, out of five attempts. They display a miserable 3/13 from 3 points in this first half.
On the other hand, the Germans are 8/17 in that area of the game. A success that makes the difference on the scoreboard. Once again, the Roca Team suffers defensively, conceding nearly 50 points in the first 20 minutes. Vassilis Spanoulis’ players are struggling with rebounds. A problem that has been all too frequent this season in the Euroleague.
The Roca Team still trailing
After halftime, the dynamics remain identical to the first quarter. The two teams stay neck and neck and neither is able to take over. A scenario that benefits Bayern Munich, which is still ahead in the score. With ten minutes left in the game, AS Monaco Basket has to make up a five-point deficit.
During this third act, Vassilis Spanoulis’ men have regained their 3-point shooting touch, with 4/6. However, the Bavarians stick to their standards and do not lose ground in this area (5/7). The Monegasques maintain hope in this match, but will have to double their efforts to get back in front.
The Roca Team doesn’t come out of the crisis
Mike James leaves the Roca Team wanting in this final quarter. The American scored 30 points and gave 5 assists. A performance that won’t be enough to win tonight on the Munich court. The AS Monaco Basket falls 91 to 82 and concedes a fifth straight defeat in the Euroleague.
The Monegasques did not lead the score for a single second of this game. AS Monaco Basket is truly plunged into crisis. It’s hard to imagine that the off-court issues of the past days aren’t related to this lack of results.
The Roca Team’s week will end on the court of Chalon-sur-Saône in Betclic Élite, next Sunday (February 8th). In the Euroleague, the Monegasques will host the Basques of Baskonia on February 13th.
