Parc Phoenix and the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur are presenting the exhibition “Beauties of the Sky and Cosmic Phenomena” until June 30 in the Floréal and Prairial rooms.
This is an exhibition showcasing particularly spectacular cosmic phenomena: visitors will behold the beauty emanating from images sourced from celestial bodies and will gain the keys to finally understand the various spectacles the sky offers us.
Under the domes of observatories or in front of their computers, astronomers are often amazed by the images they acquire. The expression “What a beautiful image!” might escape them at the sight of a planetary nebula or a Martian landscape.
This awareness of beauty is not innate. If an astronomer is amazed, for example at the image of a galaxy cluster with a gravitational lens, it is because they possess some interpretive keys.
This exhibition invites visitors to discover some of these keys with the help of a selection of spectacular images, while drawing a parallel between the aesthetic pleasure of astronomers and their interpretation based on the nature of the associated physical phenomena.
