Benoit Barbagli puts the sea to work

Small Against Nature unveiled by Benoit Barbagli. Until December 10, the artist’s works can be found at the Espace Culturel Port Lympia starting at 5:30 PM.

The eternal duality between nature and man. At a time when the Earth is revolting, the paintings of Benoit Barbagli remind us how insignificant we are.

Except for the linen canvas, all the materials used, including the ink, were created and conceived during a hike through the mountains. The artist brings out hardness and violence by using earth as a tool. The creative process involves taking natural materials and transforming them into works in harmony with nature. “The creation of the canvas is as swift as the fall of a few meters that a few drops of charcoal mixed with water take.” It’s hard to remain emotionless in the face of nature’s overwhelming force.

Benoit Barbagli’s educational background is very rich, from Villa Arson to the University of Nice where he studied philosophy; he is capable of mastering different mediums (painting, sculpture, photography, video, sound, publishing).

With the earth as his muse, he travels the world to deepen the thought of his art. On the shores of the Mediterranean, Benoit walks, bivouacs, climbs, swims, free-dives to capture the energy of the earth. And this energy, he communicates it in his various works where he echoes the emotions emitted by our planet.

A long journey that makes its next stop in Paris on October 17, where the works will be exhibited at the Massart Gallery and Villa Caméline.
