On Thursday, June 24, 2010, one of the largest demonstrations known in Nice took place.
There were between 5,000 and 10,000 employees from both the public and private sectors mobilized to protest against the pension scheme proposed by the French government. According to the municipal police, the procession consisted of 5,200 demonstrators, compared to over 10,000, according to a representative of the CFDT.
The reason for such a gathering? The proposed reform does not address the issues of employment, especially for young people and seniors, nor does it address the reduction of gender inequalities or the recognition of job difficulty.
The demonstrators finished their march around 1 PM at Place Massena, where a picnic was planned.
