And one… two and one… two… three… four “MUSIC”, in the rehearsal room, you can hear the tune of “Singin’ in the Rain” mixed with a few jazzy notes. An original idea, set to the rhythm of hip hop dance by our young people from the Var region.
A project by Guillaume Cadot, president of the “Big City” association, launched over a year ago. Its goal: the creation of a musical based on the famous American film by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, “Singin’ in the Rain,” released in 1952.
A young and talented trumpeter from Nice, Guillaume has received musical training since childhood. Today, he decides to lead his own project and creates a partnership with a community collective.
Indeed, “Big City” brings together several social centers such as personal aid associations “Bougeons ensemble,” and numerous schools. It includes students from the Toulon conservatory, young hip hop dancers from “Connexion Street” and “Puissance Style,” theater students from “Art d’assaut,” and photographers trained by the “Clin d’œil photographie” association, most of whom are from Toulon.
A true social mix is established in the project, with 35 young people, ages 12 to 35, motivated and supervised by real professionals. With jazz, electro-acoustic music, and hip hop dance, the association promotes intercultural and intergenerational exchanges. “Big City” is a genuine artistic creation with original choreography and musical compositions.
You can find the “Big City” team and their president on June 25 and 26, 2013, live from the Toulon Opera House.
