Biot offers a double exhibition “Of Iron and Earth & Traces” from September 26 to Sunday, October 25, in the municipal exhibition halls. It is presented by the artists Chiffon (sculptor) and Silange (visual artist), two cousins who are delighted to showcase their works.
Claude Durrieu, also known as Chiffon, will present sculptures of women. “I learned [with Muriel Geny] to model and sculpt, primarily the female body, its beauty, its generous forms, its sensuality, and maternity. […] I create, I escape, I dream; working with clay has become a necessity for me.”
Claude Durrieu lives in Salon-de-Provence, but the Biot residents know her well. Indeed, in 1968, she opened her shop “Chiffon,” from which she would derive her future pseudonym, on Place des Arcades.
Later, her story in Biot would become more closely linked to the development of the municipal libraries. And, although she moved to Salon-de-Provence in 2002, she returns there regularly.
Denise Angelis-Vialaneix, also known as Silange, will present her paintings. Silange has painted for as long as she can remember. “I play with rigor, power, and organization with no concession of any kind: the desire for sincerity bursts through the canvas.”
After investing a lot in art workshops for children and adults, she has refocused on her own work in her studio. This is the third exhibition she is organizing with her cousin “Chiffon” and the first one she is presenting in Biot.
