Thanks to the “Rando Bistrot” operation, the meeting of local products and its inhabitants offers a journey full of authentic flavors and scents, maintaining and enhancing the quality of services in villages with less than 2000 inhabitants while promoting rural identity.
Located away from major tourist flows, the café/bar is the last or one of the last businesses in some villages.
In a department where rural areas cover 80% of the territory, maintaining multipurpose cafés/bars (bread depot, grocery store, tourist information, cultural events, postal point, banking services) by promoting their economic, tourist, and social function is essential to preserve life and activity in the villages.
The General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes has been committed since 2009, alongside Italian partners, to implementing the “PIT TOURVAL” project, a cross-border cooperation ALCOTRA 2007-2013 initiative aimed at the economic development of the rural area and diversification of the Franco-Italian tourist offer.
Thanks to the cross-border “Tourval café” project, tourism professionals in the high country have been supported and qualified to join the national brand “Bistrot de Pays”.
This brand now brings together more than 250 establishments in France, with about ten located in the Alpes-Maritimes and around thirty in Italy.
