Blue March: the Antoine Lacassagne Center is offering a colorectal cancer screening day.

Latest News

On the occasion of Blue March, a month dedicated to raising awareness about colorectal cancer screening, the Antoine Lacassagne Center is taking action to emphasize the importance of screening and prevention. They are organizing an event open to everyone this Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM.

With 42,000 new cases per year, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second deadliest (18,000 annual deaths) in France. However, if detected at an early stage, it can be cured in nearly 9 out of 10 cases. Unfortunately, this condition often develops without showing clinical signs for several years until it reaches an advanced stage where the chances of recovery are much lower.

Fortunately, there is a screening test available. It is offered every two years to those between 50 and 74 years old. This test is simple, quick, and effective, and can be done at home. It allows for the detection of a lesion before it develops into cancer or for spotting cancer at an early stage. It is estimated that if 100% of the population participated in organized screening, colorectal cancer mortality could be reduced by 50%, thus saving nearly 9,000 lives per year in France!

The program includes nutritional advice, healthy recipes, and an informational brochure on the benefits of a healthy and balanced diet in preventing colorectal cancer, provided by the Center’s nutrition team, along with fresh fruit and vegetable juices.
