The OGC Nice Boules team maintained its second place in the overall standings of the Ligue Sport-Boules M1. Despite a defeat in the opening match, the Azurรฉens bounced back and returned from Lyon with ten points.
On Monday, June 9, during the 110th edition of the Pentecost Bowls Tournaments in Lyon, OGC Nice Boules competed in the penultimate stage of the M1 League. In a tough group, the team from Nice had a challenging start. Defeated by Saint-Vulbas (2-13), they could no longer aim for the top spot in the group.
The men led by Didier Abrate, however, responded. They subsequently defeated Portet-sur-Garonne (13-4) and then La Cรดte-Saint-Andrรฉ (13-0). Meanwhile, the players from Saint-Vulbas continued their momentum and secured their ticket to the semi-finals. Nice finished second in its group, allowing it to return with ten points.
In the overall standings, Plaine de lโAin, victorious in the final against Saint-Vulbas, widens the gap with 156 points. Nice remains second with 122 points, just ahead of Saint-Vulbas, third with 112 points.
A final stage under tension in Gรฉnelard
The ninth and penultimate stage is currently being held in Gรฉnelard, since yesterday. It promises to be crucial for the podium. Group 3, nicknamed โthe group of death,โ brings together four of the top five teams in the standings: Plaine de lโAin, Nice, Mรฉtropole de Lyon (4th, 108 points), and Gรฉnelard (5th, 100 points).
The clash between Nice and Plaine de lโAin, scheduled for the opening, could weigh heavily in the title race. A victory for the team from Nice would rekindle the fight for the top spot.
