Box Office: A Brother’s Wife by Monia Chokri

Latest News

“The Woman of My Brother” is the first film directed by Monia Chokri.

However, this film has failed to convince critics who feel the movie is “not very likeable” and, at best, “kind of nice”…

In Montreal, Sophia is crashing at her older brother Karim’s place, a womanizer with whom she has a very close relationship. Thus, Sophia’s anger when she discovers that her own gynecologist, played by Evelyne Brochu, has become Karim’s new love interest.

She suffers while he, who adores her, doesn’t quite know what to do. It’s not a likeable film, and eventually, we understand that there’s something elusive here: what sibling bonds can trigger.

It’s made up of little sketches that are always in the same style. But there are still very funny moments and also very sharp ones.

There are some quite amusing things, with humor added by Anne-Elisabeth Bossé, who is remarkable in the role of this intellectual Bridget Jones, even if she is a bit annoying at times.

There are beautiful dialogues with a very enigmatic ending.

Monia Chokri has a sense of dialogue, with a staging that, all in all, isn’t very modest…
