Box office: Assolo by Laura Morante

Latest News

The second film directed by Laura Morante, known as one of the most brilliant actresses of her generation. After “La cérise sur le gateau” in 2012, Assolo (“Solo”) is not an Italian comedy but is closer to Woody Allen with the labyrinth of psychological reflections that serve as its guiding thread.

Flavia (the character played by Laura Morante and around whom the film’s screenplay revolves) is a fragile and insecure woman. She has been married twice, has two children, a dog, but she is still desperately seeking the approval and affection of those around her.

But Flavia, despite her willingness and efforts, remains alone and is unable to achieve any significant goals…

She sees a psychologist (the remarkable Piera Degli Esposti), telling her everything and nothing, while avoiding talking about the main subject: herself!

At the center of the film emerges the character’s loneliness, a theme particularly dear to Woody Allen, caught between life conditions and self-perception.

It’s only by accepting her imperfections that Flavia can give a new direction to her life, using self-irony about her flaws, without any pathos or complacency.

Laura Morante bravely tackles the subject of women in their fifties who doubt themselves, feel fragile, and struggle to take control of their lives.

An anti-heroine who just needs to put a bit of order in her life to envision a new future.
