There are only a few hours left for Europeans and the British to reach a post-Brexit agreement that can be validated in time.
The leaders of the political groups in the European Parliament have warned that in order to ratify a potential agreement, they must receive the text by midnight this Sunday at the latest.
The negotiators from both sides will be fighting over the fisheries issue this weekend. The Europeans want to maintain access to British waters, and London agrees but only for three years.
Michel Barnier, European negotiator: “It would be neither fair nor acceptable for European fishermen to have only transitional rights in British waters that would evaporate one day, while all the rest of the agreement, notably for British businesses, would remain stable.”
For the British, in the absence of “significant” European concessions, a failure is highly likely.
