BRT in l’Ariane: a Partial Victory and Areas of Uncertainty for the Left Opposition

Latest News

The announcement by the President of the Metropolis regarding the future extension of modern and efficient public transport towards Ariane has resonated with the sensitive ears of the socialist representatives who have always sought a solution for the residents of this disadvantaged neighborhood.

Patrick Allemand, a metropolitan opposition councilor and historical supporter of this issue, was quick to claim his share of the credit:

The BHNS (bus with a high level of service), even on a dedicated route, will never be the tram, but it is what comes closest to it.

But Christian Estrosi would never have made this proposal for Ariane:

If on last May 5, the opposition hadn’t challenged him in the middle of a Metropolitan Council meeting,

If since then, we hadn’t dismantled, argument by argument, his facade justifications

If, with โ€œNice au Cล“urโ€ and all the others, we hadn’t constructed a collective declaration signed by 14 political groups and associations, each of which can claim a part of this success.

If there weren’t already more than 1900 signatures at the bottom of a petition demanding the extension of line 1 to Ariane.

If Alain MEINARDI (former head of Lapeyre) and his association, Nice Ariane Development, consisting of more than 100 member business leaders, hadn’t expressed concern about this oversight, broadening the mobilization beyond leftist forces.

His conclusion is straightforward: โ€œThis is therefore a victory for us, for the citizen mobilization serving the people of Ariane. Let this lesson be remembered. Unity and mobilization eventually pay off.โ€
