“Building a zero waste region”

Latest News

From July 11 to 18, the Region organized a large beach tour to raise public awareness. For the occasion, a zero waste village was set up. The public was able to participate in fun and educational environmental workshops.

The goal is to make the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region a plastic-free region by 2030. Between 1,000 and 3,000 tons of plastic material float on the surface of the Mediterranean. This awareness campaign is at the heart of the Region’s ambition. Since January 1, 2017, it has relied on the NOTRe law.*

Local officials supported this project, including Christian Estrosi, deputy president of the Region and president of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis; Renaud Muselier, president of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur Region and member of the European Parliament; and Maud Fontenoy, deputy vice-president in charge of sustainable development, energy, and the sea.

Nice was the last stop of this tour. Throughout the week, the village taught the public how not to pollute, reduce waste, sort trash, and respect biodiversity. All of this in a fun and friendly atmosphere. “Actions should be learned from a young age. We need to establish a new education to preserve our coastline,” says Jennifer Salles-Barbosa, president of the tourism commission of the PACA Regional Council.
