Cagnes-sur-Mer: A permanent mounted police unit from 2026

Latest News

A mobile mounted gendarmerie brigade will be established in Cagnes-sur-Mer during the course of the year 2026. The Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau informed the senator of Alpes-Maritimes, Alexandra Borchio Fontimp, via an official letter.

The creation of this brigade is part of a national program planning the deployment of 239 new gendarmerie brigades. Launched by the executive, it aims to improve and strengthen local security throughout the territory.

It will be located at the Cagnes-sur-Mer racetrack, where the facilities are suited to accommodate horses and riders. The brigade aims to supplement existing measures and cover the entire department of Alpes-Maritimes.

A planned initiative?ย ย

This decision follows a request made in 2022 by senator Alexandra Borchio Fontimp to Gรฉrald Darmanin, then Minister of the Interior. The elected representative from the Azur region emphasized the importance of mounted patrols, considering that they foster prevention and dialogue with the population.

This brigade is therefore part of the ongoing commitments led by the Parliamentarian in favor of strengthening the resources of the gendarmerie in the department. Since 2017, she has also initiated the establishment of a Republican Guard brigade in Antibes Juan-les-Pins.ย

Alexandra Borchio Fontimp thanked the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau for his favorable response to strengthening security in Alpes-Maritimes.
