This Sunday marks a highlight of the horse racing meeting hosted by the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse. The program includes two high-level races, the Mediterranean Jockeys Championship, and Italy Day. Spectacle in sight!
The horse racing meeting, which started on January 13, has entered its second half. It will conclude on Saturday, February 21, with the most beautiful of gatherings. This Sunday is one of its high points, featuring an enticing program and numerous activities, as is customary for the racing society.
In the magnificent setting that is the Côte d’Azur Racecourse, eight races, including two well-known ones, will punctuate a sunny afternoon under the theme of Italy. First, the Prix de la Californie (Listed, €60,000 to be shared among the top 5) reserved for 3-year-old horses over 1,600m, and later in the afternoon, the Grand Prix de la Riviera Côte d’Azur (Listed, similar conditions) for horses aged 4 and above over 2,000m of the synthetic sand track.
Another attraction is the Prix de la Méditerranée, which supports the Mediterranean Jockeys Championship. In this event, six jockeys will represent their nations (France, Italy, Libya, Morocco, Russia, and Tunisia) wearing silks bearing the colors of their countries for the first of four stages of the annual circuit (Cagnes-sur-Mer, Moscow, Casablanca, and Syracuse). This tenth edition highlights the Mediterranean countries through horse racing. The mounts were drawn by lot this Friday, and after the race, a trophy will be awarded to the jockey and the winning horse’s owner.
A Sunday at the races where our Italian neighbors will be in the spotlight. Indeed, the first 600 visitors will receive tasting plates of Italian products accompanied by wine. Within the racecourse grounds, numerous stands will offer the opportunity to discover and taste Italian gastronomy. Additionally, a Fiat 500 exhibition will be set up near the parade ring to add an extra touch of the boot-shaped country.
As is the tradition every weekend, children will be able to enjoy some activities, including pony rides, the famous carousel, pedal sulkies, and the usual inflatable structures.
