In the city center of Cagnes sur Mer, Place de Gaulle hosts the “European Week of Waste Reduction,” organized by Azzura Lights.
This event, aimed at democratizing eco-responsibility, will conclude on November 27, 2011.
At the end of 2011, the idea of sustainable development is at the forefront of concerns for many cities in the PACA region. Notably for the city of Cagnes sur Mer, which, in collaboration with the association Azzura Lights, organizes the “European Week of Waste Reduction” from Saturday, November 19, 2011, to Sunday, November 27, 2011.
Azzura Lights, an adviser and trainer in sustainable development, is an association that invites us to become aware of ecological priorities and challenges through various actions, within the structures we occupy (businesses, universities, schools, etc.).
This week, Azzura Lights aims to participate in the “European Week of Waste Reduction,” thereby raising awareness among the residents of Cagnes sur Mer about ecology.
“The Week of Waste Reduction” is simply a week during which countries across Europe mobilize for eco-responsibility. This allows younger generations, as well as older ones, to learn about current ecological challenges.
For the inhabitants of Cagnes sur Mer, this week is organized as follows:
First, the initial activity is a “Water Bar,” created to allow tasting of three types of water: bottled mineral water, spring water (Col de Vence), and tap water from the city of Cagnes sur Mer. The goal of this workshop is to recognize tap water and demonstrate the benefits of consuming it.
Next, the “Low-Energy Bulbs” operation is available for all curious participants. This initiative aims to raise consumer awareness about the environmental issues related to the use of low-energy bulbs, which last longer, and their recycling at points of sale and proximity.
In addition, a “Reusable Dishes and Objects” operation will be in place. A fun way to become aware of the world around us, with an exhibition of unique objects made from waste, highlighting the design potential of our everyday discards.
Finally, a “STOP ADVERTISING” operation, very popular in many cities, aims to reduce advertising pollution in our homes, as well as to decrease the amount of paper used.
This “European Week of Waste Reduction” is a project stemming from France’s initiatives, now calling on the international community to fight against a growing scourge. This issue can be addressed by each city and country in different ways, depending on the audience they want to reach.
The very interesting point of this action from Azzura Lights’ perspective is its aim to reach all generations. It takes place in the city and is therefore accessible to everyone. It’s also fun for children (the primary target) and touches the family life and its home to the core.
So, for all the curious in the region, don’t hesitate to visit the places of a new world.
