Cagnes-sur-Mer Open Tennis: Surprise Defeat for Pauline Parmentier

Latest News

The first round of the main draw began this Monday in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Pauline Parmentier, the first French player in contention, lost a match that was within her reach and exited the tournament prematurely. Earlier in the morning, Irina Ramialison was defeated in the 3rd and final round of the qualifiers before being given a second chance and entering the main draw as a lucky loser.

The finalist of the Open in 2011, after winning the first set 6-2, let the next two slip away despite having a break lead in each. The Northerner couldn’t close it out even though victory seemed within reach, and the experienced Swede took advantage to qualify for the second round (2-6 6-3 7-5).

In other matches, Swiss player Timea BACSINSZKY knocked out the No. 3 seed Zarina DIYAS (KAZ), while Maryna ZANEVSKA, finalist of the 2013 edition, overcame Magda LINETTE, the No. 7 seed.
