Cagnes-sur-Mer Racecourse: Grand Steeplechase Day this Sunday

Latest News

The largest racecourse in France after Vincennes, the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse is organizing La Grande Journée de l’Obstacle this Sunday.

A highlight of the winter season, this event has become a must-see for all horse racing enthusiasts. On the day’s agenda: 7 obstacle races including the prestigious Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice.

Thanks to its Mediterranean climate and year-round functional tracks, the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse, along with those in Pau and Vincennes, is one of the few French racecourses that do not close in winter.

From December 7th to March 18th, the azure area hosts 61 horse racing meetings of varying prestige.

Among the highly anticipated moments of this winter meeting, the Grande Journée de l’Obstacle taking place on Sunday is particularly awaited. A true highlight of the obstacle racing season, it is the major event organized by the racecourse in this discipline.

Seven events are scheduled, including four of very high level.

The Prix Masséna, the Prix Christian de l’Hermine, the Grande Course de Haie de Cagnes, and finally, the Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice. As every year, it is this last event, classified as Group III (editor’s note: third world level), which is the most anticipated of all. Pitting the best thoroughbreds of the season against each other over a 4600m course, the Grand Prix de la Ville de Nice will see its winner take home the tidy sum of €63,000.

Who will succeed Alexis Acker, last year’s winner on Le Bel Anjou? While the names of the participants won’t be known until Friday, there is no doubt that the competition will be fierce.
