In partnership with the city of Nice and the Rotary Clubs of Nice, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) is organizing the sixth edition of the “My Blood for Others” campaign next Wednesday in Nice. All residents of Nice who meet the criteria are invited to come and donate their blood on Wednesday, May 29, all day at Place Masséna. An enhanced snack will be offered to them. During the 2012 edition in Nice, more than 200 bags of blood were collected.
Blood is a vital, irreplaceable element. Without volunteer donors, transfusions are not possible. In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, needs increased by nearly 5% between 2011 and 2012. The extension of life expectancy, certain treatments, childbirth, surgical operations, and accidents, especially among young people, require more and more transfusions.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, collection only covers 60% of the needs. There is an urgent need for new donors.
Aware of this issue, the city of Nice became a “blood donation partner” last March through an agreement providing logistical support to the EFS for mobile collections, blood and platelet donations, and for the Blood House situated at Nice TNL.
