“Calvi-Nice Swimming or Meloni, the Fish Man”

Latest News

Etienne MELONI was born on June 14, 1961, in Pinu, a village in Cap Corse. An accomplished entrepreneur, Etienne has already completed several challenges: Between May 1 and July 14, 2004, he completed 3 tours of Corsica, the first by swimming (500 km), the second by bike (650 km), and the last by running (650 km).

In 2005, he dedicated himself to the Tรฉlรฉthon by performing 24 hours of non-stop swimming in the Carbonite pool in Bastia.

In 2006, Etienne MELONI, supported by the Transmรฉditerranรฉe association, founded by Doctor Frรฉdรฉric BRACCINI, an ENT surgeon in Nice, will push the limits of individual effort to swim from the city of Calvi to Nice, covering 200 km at a rate of 40 km per day (16 hours of crawl swimming daily).

Etienne MELONI left from the Marina of Calvi on July 10, at 6:00 AM and will arrive in Nice on July 14, in the late afternoon on the Promenade des Anglais at the height of Opรฉra Plage.

This challenge is the result of an uncompromising human commitment, many hours of solitary training, very rigorous physical and psychological preparation, exemplary discipline and lifestyle, a year of study and planning around a team for logistics and security to be able to face the unexpected, the extreme conditions of the high seas, and uncertain weather.

This challenge will allow for a scientific study which, as part of a scientific publication, will provide elements for reflection on the chronobiology of swimmers.

An extraordinary adventure in the heart of the deep blue…

Join us on Friday, July 14, to welcome, around 5 PM, at the Opรฉra Plage, on the Promenade des Anglais, Etienne MELONI.
