Zidane Makes His Festival Debut
In addition to his impressive performances with Real Madrid and his unforgettable two goals against Brazil in 1998, here is Zizou now an actor, appearing out of competition on the Croisette. “Zidane, a 21st Century Portrait” was filmed at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium during a Spanish La Liga match between Real Madrid and Villarreal. That day, Real Madrid won 2-1. However, Zinedine Zidane did not score, leaving his teammates, Ronaldo and Michel Salgado, to net the two winning goals. A spectacular, magical portrait in real-time action of Zinedine Zidane, giving viewers the feeling of being on the field next to the player. The film sticks closely to the soccer starโs cleats throughout the match, using seventeen high-definition cameras to capture his every move.
The film was shown in the Official Selection (yet another one) out of competition at the 59th Cannes Film Festival. Nothing was left to chance. The sound atmosphere was supervised by Tom Johnson, an Oscar winner for Titanic. Cool!
