Cannes Festival – “For the Sale of Peace,” first screening of the 2022 Cannes Festival

Latest News

The Cannes Festival started off well, just a few hours before the official opening ceremony. The film “For the Sake of Peace” directed by Christophe Castagne and Thomas Sametin was screened. This film was shown in the Buñuel theater, which had no trouble filling up its seats.

This screening takes us to the heart of Sudan, a country heavily affected by conflicts since 2011 due to its division into two territories. It serves as the voice for a youth that does not lose hope despite the poverty and ethnic conflicts.

Among this youth, we meet a young woman named Nandege who claims to be a peace mediator. She strives to address inequalities and positions herself as a justice-seeker. She is not alone in this; another character in the film seeks to restore order through sports, specifically through football. What makes this film interesting is that it offers hope to new generations and inevitably resonates with the ongoing conflicts today.

The Cannes Festival is off to a great start, as this film was applauded by the audience present. The competition is therefore expected to be intense, with many other films set to compete against it. The question remains who will win the Palme d’Or, but for now, let the film viewing begin.
