Known for having been a student and then the official ceramicist of Fernand Léger, Roland Brice worked with the master to study ceramic bas-reliefs designed for mural art. For five years, this collaboration and connection around the kilns led to the creation of significant works. His inventive contributions and technical adjustments met Léger’s desire to color and animate the proportions of walls. The painter was fascinated by this technique, which allowed him to move beyond the constraints of a canvas and open painting to new dimensions. The “polychrome sculptures” created in Roland Brice’s workshop were designed by Léger for public spaces and fulfilled his ambition of creating art for everyone.
Rodolphe Cosimi, art critic, university lecturer, and member of the French Society of Authors, invites you to discover this shared adventure in ceramics, a significant chapter in the history of modern art.
