This afternoon, the presentation of the Cannes Urban Trail took place in the Verrière room of the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals in the presence of David Lisnard (the mayor of Cannes), Pascal Thiriot (President of Azur Sport Organisation), Odile Gouny Dozol (the city of Cannes sports delegate), and Stéphane Diagana (1997 World Champion and 2000 European Champion in Athletics).
This afternoon, the presentation of the first edition of the Cannes Urban Trail took place in the Verrière room of the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

A race between Trail and road running that is part of current trends: a delightful mix of heritage discovery and athletic performance.

For this first edition, 3 routes are offered: the grand Cannois (26 km), the petit Cannois (13 km), and finally, the Cannes Discoveries Run of 8 km. Timed or not, they allow everyone to find the route that suits them. And to discover or rediscover the city of cinema as you have never seen it.
100 kilometers of marked trails crisscrossing the city, through various emblematic places: the Pointe Gazagnaire, the Belvedere of the Canal de la Siagne, the Lycée Carnot, the Belvedere of Roquebillière, La Croix-des-Gardes, the Church of Suquet. The highlight, runners will finish by climbing the steps and passing through the Palais des Festivals.
An event that enriches a calendar of outdoor sports events of national and international renown: (Nice-Cannes Marathon; international triathlon; Odyssea race; royal regattas, international Jumping…)
The mayor of Cannes (David Lisnard) is delighted. Since 2014, he has wanted to make Cannes the capital of outdoor sports. His ambition is to see young and old flourish through one of the most accessible sports, while also creating a positive image of the city. An event whose unique concept will strongly contribute to the city’s tourism and economic outreach, given its close connection between heritage and sports dimensions.
The runners will start on January 21st, at 9:00 AM, at the foot of the Palais des Festivals and Congresses for the grand Cannois. A race in which David Lisnard (the mayor of the city) will participate, as he declared earlier with a beaming smile.
30 minutes later, at 9:30 AM, it will be the turn of the Cannes Discovery to start for a timed or untimed race. Three starts are scheduled: the Cannes Femina Trail, a start for everyone, as well as a hiking start. The elevation is set at 250 m on a route that is 70% urban and 30% Trail. The start will be given at the foot of the Palais des Festivals and Congresses, for a return to the same point.
An hour and a half later, at 10:30 AM, it will be the turn of the petit Cannois athletes to embark on a 13 km distance. An event that is 70% urban and 30% Trail, with an elevation set at 400 m +/-, just like the grand Cannois participants, the start will be given at the foot of the Palais des Festivals and Congresses.
According to David Lisnard, this edition is already a success, as no less than 2000 runners will set off through Cannes, surrounded by more than 300 volunteers.
An event made possible thanks to the city’s sports service surrounded by the expertise of the Azur Sport Organisation teams. Azur Sport Organisation boasts the famous and unmissable Alpes-Maritimes Marathon (Nice-Cannes).
Bib collection will take place on the eve of the race (Saturday, January 20, 2018) between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM on Esplanade Macé located behind the Palais des Festivals and Congresses. Each participant will leave with a souvenir: the t-shirt of the first edition. For finishers, a medal and a bottle of Mineral Drink provided by STC, the city’s partner, will be given to them upon their arrival.

Important information: As of today, registration for the 13 km is already complete and closed. Only the 8 km and 26 km remain available. Stéphane Diagana may participate in the 13 km.
