Menton Menton: the mayor’s office is at risk of being overrun
Home > Valleys Vote 0
The mayor of Tourrette-Levens, Alain Frère (UMP), was re-elected as the general councilor of the canton of Levens this Sunday, September 16, with 78.20% of the votes.
The result is practically guaranteed, and it is only due to electoral regulations requiring at least 25% of voters to have participated that the outgoing general councilor was not elected in the first round.
Despite this nearly foregone conclusion, opponents of Dr. Frère have not lost all hope: after having ‘defeated’ the FN candidate in the selection for a finalist spot in the first round, they are calling for massive participation to “express the strength of citizen gathering for a united and ecological policy.”
On the side of the UMP candidate, no statement was made on the eve of this decisive day. Almost assured of being reappointed to his seat as general councilor and Vice President of the General Council in charge of culture, the nearly octogenarian Alain Frère, mayor of Tourrette-Levens for 30 years and deputy to Christian Estrosi, is a perfect representative of the stranglehold under which the UMP holds the valleys of the Nice region.
As the naysayers say, Dr. Frère did not need to campaign; his numerous employees and obligations are more than enough to secure his victory.
