Cantonal Elections 2011: Hervé de Surville, candidate in the 12th district of Nice

Who is the candidate of the Union Pour Nice? His profile and the reasons for his commitment in the 12th canton of Nice. Nice-Premium gave him a voice, as it does for every candidate in the upcoming cantonal elections in March.

At the request of my friends from the Union Pour Nice, of which I am the Founding President, I will present my candidacy to the voters of the 12th canton of Nice on March 20 and 27, 2011.

This is a candidacy of conviction because this 12th canton, which peaks at the east of Nice and whose diversity is its richness, needs an efficient, competent, and present General Councilor.

A Doctor of Law, a graduate from the European Institute of International Studies, as well as from the Institute of Higher Studies of Internal Security and the Institute of Higher Studies of National Defense, I have received numerous decorations for my service to Nice (National Order of Merit, Academic Palms, Agricultural Merit, Youth and Sports).

Deeply attached to the values of loyalty, dignity, and solidarity, I am determined to engage for this 12th canton of this city of Nice where I grew up, completed all my studies, where I work, and where I live with my family.

As a senior official at the Nice Town Hall for over 20 years, I have gained significant experience that I now wish to use for this elective mandate, to better serve the general interest.

An academic with skills and a drive to make things happen, I actively wish to help this 12th canton thrive, as the challenges in this territory are numerous.

As a resident, I denounce the totally incoherent management of the current municipality with unfinanceable projects and unnecessary expenses, which directly result in the increase of our taxes.

As a citizen, I believe that politics should be an ethical vision with conviction of society, and certainly not a corporate and megalomaniacal careerism.

However, Nice has gradually been slipping into autocracy for the last 30 months, with a personalization of power, arbitrariness, privileges, and courtiers.

As a man of dialogue and listening, tenacious and willing, I want to put my experience and competence at the service of this 12th canton, which needs proximity, humanity, and fraternity.

I want to improve the quality of life in areas like security and cleanliness, public transportation, noise fighting, traffic, and parking, housing, and poverty reduction.

I also want to promote community living in terms of sport and culture, social and health, urban ecology, local facilities, and events.

I have decided to engage not out of resentment or on a whim, but because I refuse fatalism and cynicism, because I denounce illusionism and nepotism, because the constant blabber is intolerable, because the recurring self-satisfaction and self-persuasion are unbearable, because I believe that people should be placed at the heart of all issues, because I am proud of Nice which deserves more than ephemeral media posturing, and because I think the municipal majority is a casting error.

Yes, I have decided to cross the Rubicon without any qualms.

In a period of truth denial, I have chosen to speak the truth because remaining silent would be complicity.

For all these reasons, and after 30 years of active activism with UNI, RPR, and UMP, I decided to return my UMP card, created the Union Pour Nice, and joined République Solidaire, the new movement by Dominique de Villepin.

I present myself as a candidate of the alternative of the republican and social right.

Beyond the Union Pour Nice, I am supported in this cantonal election by the Entente Républicaine chaired by the former Mayor of Nice Jacques Peyrat, but also by André Chauvet and Patrick Villardry, former candidates in the 12th canton in May 2009.

I am aware that this battle will be difficult.

To those who think it’s the clay pot’s fight against the iron pot, I reply that in David against Goliath’s battle, it was the former who defeated the latter.

Moreover, as Corneille said in Le Cid: “To win without risk is to triumph without glory.”
