While the annulment of the election in the 7th canton of Nice was expected, the one pronounced for the 14th canton is much more surprising.
Indeed, if Dominique Boy-Mottard was only 16 votes behind the winning opponent, Bernard Baudin, in the 7th canton, the victory of Dominique Estrosi-Sassone was much more decisive. However, it appears that Jacqueline Peyrat’s appeal regarding the eligibility of another candidate in this election, Max Baeza, was upheld by the administrative court.
Moreover, it was quite puzzling why a seasoned and valuable political figure like “DES” chose (or likely yielded) to use such “unfair” means to secure a victory that was already highly probable.
Taking advantage of the municipal propaganda machinery (we all remember the series of inaugurations during the electoral campaign) is part of the game, but this last-minute, irrelevant candidacy…
Should we recall what Horace said in his Epistles? : Imitatores servum pecus.
Of course, we still have to wait for the Council of State’s decision to know if the voters of the 14th canton will have to return to the polls and, more importantly, who the candidates will be in this second election.
While there is no doubt about the candidacies of Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, Paul Cuturello, and Jacques Peyrat, it remains to be seen if Max Baeza, whose situation prompted the annulment, will campaign again.
The one accused by Jacques Peyrat of serving the “Estrosi Clan” has yet to reveal his future plans while we are only hearing the stereotypical statements from all sides.
