Tuesday evening, at the Cap 3000 shopping center, there was a gathering of SKAL, an association of tourism professionals. The director of Cap 3000 was present and reflected on this historic location, more than 50 years old.
Roch-Charles Rosier, the director of Cap 3000, celebrated the shopping center’s 50th anniversary last year. Created by Nouvelles Galeries, the center quickly came under the management of Galeries Lafayette before being acquired by the Altarea Cogedim group in July 2010, which injected 1.2 billion euros for the site’s expansion.
Cap 3000 initially was a parking area with a capacity of 3000 spaces, hence “Cap” for “capacity”. Today, the site has 4200 parking spaces, expanding from 150 to 300 shops. Due to the health and economic crises, part of the extension will only open in October 2021 and not this year.
A 3700 square meter pharmacy
It is the largest shopping center in the south of France and the fifth largest nationally, with an annual revenue of 600 million euros. In November, the largest pharmacy in Europe will open at Cap 3000, covering an area of 3700 square meters. In terms of dining, innovation is a priority with examples like “IT Villagio”, an Italian restaurant offering fresh products and specialties from the country. In total, the site has expanded from 5 to 26 restaurants in a few years. “We are the only shopping center in Europe to have such a view,” concludes director Roch-Charles Rosier.
