In order to keep the Nice traditions alive once more, the port of Carras hosts the Saint-Jean festival to celebrate the arrival of summer.
But where does this celebration come from? This festival, a symbol of the summer solstice, was once organized around a fire to promote marriages. Legend has it that young girls would rush to the fires of Saint-Jean because, according to the legend, if they danced around nine pyres, their marriages would be celebrated within the year. This tradition has persisted until today, leaving us with a heritage that the people of Nice are proud of.
What was on the program?
The program included typically Nice games, songs, music, and dances from the Nice folklore. You could help yourself to pan-bagnat, and pissaladières were distributed.
Thanks to Les Fifres et Tambours du Pays Niçois, Lou Caireu Niçart, Nice La Belle, and Coco beach Balèti for putting on the show. The atmosphere was festive, and even the little ones got involved, offering beautiful choreographies.
Many were able to discover the typical Nice outfits. Yes, there were many people who did not come from here. They were able to discover our traditions and folklore.
Finally, as is customary, the Saint-Jean festival ends with a grand bonfire. Young and old alike were in awe of this spectacle, which filled everyone’s eyes with stars.
