Former deputy mayor of the town, head of the BTS Communication at Parc Impérial in Nice, Founder of the Cinéalma Festival… Charles Scibetta already had several strings to his bow, and he has just added another by announcing his candidacy for the upcoming municipal elections in Carros. He explains why!
Nice Premium: Charles Scibetta, one event after another, from Cinéalma manager, you are now taking on the role of candidate?
Charles Scibetta: I wanted to clearly differentiate the two. During the Cinéalma festival, we talk about cinema, but we do not engage in politics, especially since Cinéalma is co-organized with the city of Carros. But now that the festival is over, it’s time to fully invest in the electoral campaign.
NP: What will be your political orientation and your initial program directions?
CS: I want to show that we can reconcile politics with the citizens. To do so, we must commit to the well-being of our fellow citizens and the prominence of our city honestly, humbly, and effectively. I want to be close to the people and attentive to them. I want to revive the spirit of the first two terms with Mr. Damiani during which I served as deputy mayor and transformed the city significantly by changing its image. I want to give Carros a new impulse.
NP: An election means candidates. How do you position yourself against your already known opponents?
CS: I don’t like that term; it’s too violent, too combative. I prefer to speak of competitors. My main competitor will be Christine Charles, who currently serves as the first deputy mayor. We know each other well; we’ve shared friendly relations for years. We worked together from 1995 to 2008, and on many points, we have the same orientations. However, we stand apart on others, such as urban planning and culture. Furthermore, I believe I am closer to the residents of Carros, more attentive and respectful of differences. I consider that a contradictory exchange is a wealth.
NP: You are also responsible for the BTS Communication at Parc Impérial. Is this an advantage in a campaign?
CS: Again, I don’t mix things up. At the school, I am a teacher who tries to do his job well by fully investing in the interest of my students. But I never talk about politics. It is true, however, that my skills in communication will be useful in this electoral campaign, while being sincere with people and true to my deep convictions.
NP: In your opinion, what will be the key points of the municipal campaign for the city of Carros?
CS: The residents of Carros, in general, love their city, and they feel good there. This is the result of all the politics that have been conducted since 1995, of which I claim a large part of the legacy. But at the same time, during the last term, in some neighborhoods, the quality of life has deteriorated, with green spaces not being maintained properly, and cleanliness leaving much to be desired. Additionally, even though overall there are no major safety issues, the situation remains fragile. Finally, the intensive urbanization of the Plans of Carros risks losing the soul of this residential area, also famous for its agriculture which has been sacrificed. A strong and experienced team is needed to address these problems, to stay the course and reassure the residents of Carros.
NP: A candidate also means a list. Do you already have names to announce?
CS: Yes, of course, it will be a list composed of men and women respectful of the values of the Republic, committed to implementing a municipal project that effectively meets the expectations of the population and that is representative of the diversity of Carros residents, both geographically and professionally and politically. The list will be a citizen, free, and diverse, without the tutelage of a political party. The group is being formed, several people have expressed their willingness to join (see “supporters” on the website) but I want it open to all good will who still wish to join us.
NP: Finally, you are elected mayor of Carros, what will be your first three actions?
CS: Create a climate of trust with our citizens by being close to them and doing everything possible to implement our program. Restore calm among municipal staff who, for the past few months, have been living in an unbearable atmosphere of tension. Implement a new policy in the fields of culture, sports, and leisure to be closer to the expectations of Carros residents while contributing to the city’s prominence. Launch new projects such as the creation of a mutual health center. The first change will come from the way of managing the city in a climate of trust, respect, and serenity.
