Castagniers: the fire is contained but vigilance remains crucial.

Latest News

Throughout the night from Monday to Tuesday, 450 firefighters battled to control flames reaching heights of 30 to 40 meters, and to ensure the safety of the population.

The fire broke out on Monday, July 17th, early in the afternoon in Castagniers, in the hills behind Nice. The fire was particularly fierce and consumed 120 hectares of forest.

The fire did not cause any casualties. Three firefighters experienced smoke inhalation. The damage was only material, with a garage destroyed by the flames and three homes partially affected.

Although the fire is currently under control, firefighters are not ruling out the risk of it reigniting. They remain on site, and water bombers continue to drop water on the burned areas. They advise the public to remain vigilant.

Investigators are still searching for the cause of the fire. A rumor suggests it might have been started by an improperly extinguished barbecue.
