The tunnel boring machine is preparing to return to the surface on Rue de France, at the very spot where the line will become aerial again.
Tram line 2 (11.3 km with 20 stations) is expected to connect the city’s port to the administrative center via the airport by 2019.
Christian Estrosi, feeling both pride and relief, invites everyone to “meet on November 4th for the unveiling of ‘Catherine’, the tunnel boring machine’s cutting wheel, and on the 5th for an open house day.”
In fact, the project has experienced numerous mishaps, including pipeline breaks and cracks in buildings. The most recent issue was a huge hole in the roadway on Rue de France last July.
The dismantling of the tunnel boring machine will be done in public.
